Newspaper comic book nails! (REALLY picture heavy)

I'm beyond excited that this worked. I accidentally got newsprint all over my hands this morning while reading the paper and then I thought, hey, what if I could get this on to my nails? So, I googled a little and found that several people had already done it.  However, where I used water (explanation later on) they used alcohol. I didn't have any rubbing alcohol on hand so I figured i'd have to try water instead. All of the manicures I saw used words from the newspaper and I was curious to see if the comics would work instead, they did! Scroll down for instructions. :)

First, a base coat : Sally Hansen Xtreme Nails "White On" 2 coats
It was still streaky but since I intended on covering it up, I let it slide. Let this dry COMPLETELY.

Then, you need a bowl of room temperature water and some pieces of newsprint, or the comics if you like, slightly larger than your nail. Dip the newspaper in the water until it's wet and then place it on your nail. Press down pretty hard and hold for 20-30 seconds. Try very hard not to move or lift the paper because if you do, the words will smear. The longer you hold down the newspaper, the darker the image/words will be on your nails. Then, lift the newspaper off. Unfortunately, you can't use the same piece of newspaper twice because there isn't enough ink left to do more than one nail. After you're finished, apply a clear top coat of your choosing. This is extremely necessary because without the top coat, the image just wipes off. You may end up with some newspaper ink on your hands, that's absolutely fine, it comes off with water! If you try this, let me know and i'd love to see pictures!

This is my favorite one! I love his face adourning my nail. :)

strobe lights & disco balls

Ahhh! No words can describe the immense amount of love I have for this beautiful, holographic, sparkly, glittery beauty. I probably wouldn't wear it alone, but I absolutely needed to show off this beauty. The second picture is intentionally blurry to show off the holographic beauty of this lovely new friend of mine. :)

Sally Hansen Xtreme Nails "Strobe Light" 4 coats.

THEN, because this color was irresitable, I decorated it a little bit. However, when I was removing this.. I realized I took no pictures, SO i quickly redid it on one hand just to show off. The dots were much more even the first time, but you get the idea.

Base: Sally Hansen Xtreme Nails "Strobe Light" 4 coats
Dots: Revlon Scented "Bubble Gum" 2 coat
Dots are done with a bobby pin, because I lack a dotting tool.

bubblegum part two.

Base Coat: Revlon Scented "Bubble Gum" 3 coats
Top coat on all excluding ring finger: OPI Black Shatter 1 coat
Ring finger: Sally Hansen Xtreme Nails "Strobe Light" 4 coats.
I love love love Strobe Light, it makes me so happy when I look down at my fingers.
However, I quickly ruined this manicure by outdoing my love for strobelight and put a coat of it on top of the shatter, bad bad bad idea; i'll spare you the pictures.

my name is bubblegum, live for moon and sun

Revlon Scented Collection "Bubblegum" 3 coats
Oh my gosh! Such a delightful scent. I've yused this polish for 4 different manicures since I got it yesterday, heh. I just looove the scent wafting from my fingertips.

i've been walking in the same way as i did, missing all the cracks in the pavement.

As you probably noticed, the bottle of this is a mess. It leaked somehow during the long 9 hour flight from London to Calgary. It leaked all over a couple polishes that I have managed to clean up but I never got around to cleaning this one, for some reason. It's also, sadly, only half full because of the mishap.

17 Lasting Fix "Mint Chocolate Chip" 3 coats
It doesn't remind me of mint at all, just a really pastel blue.

should i give up or should i just keep chasing pavements ?

Heh. So, have you noticed my Adele obsessed post titles? I'll find new lyrics tomorrow, promise.

17 Supreme Shine "Wave" 3 coats
Looove it, mainly because I always seem to be on a turquoise kick.

you know how the time flies, only yesterday was the time of our lives.

17 Lasting Fix "True Blue" 2 coats
My camera simply didn't agree with this color, it's much brighter than it appears, slightly darker than a royal blue.

never mind, i'll find someone like you.

17 Lasting Fix "Chateau" 2 coats
Now... i'm a little disappointed, although it's a bittersweet kind of disappointment. In the bottle this looks like a gorgeous red with gold through it. Hoooowever, it's pink. =/ Although, I really do like the pink (bittersweet part). It looks nothing like the bottle, it's really pink and not even close to red. I tried multiple coats on a sheet of paper and it never did turn red, just got darker pink.

all i wanna see is a sky full of lighters

I was getting kinda bored today & decided to swatch some of my international haul polishes, however, i'm losing light pretty quickly so two of them will have to wait until another day. This post is also a comparison post because of the slight similarity I noticed between one new and one old polish.

Thumb, Middle and Pinky finger are wearing 17 Lasting Fix "Orange Soda" 4 coats
Index and Ring finger are wearing Revlon Scented "Mad About Mango" 4 coats
As far as the color, Mad About Mango is slightly darker, however, on the first coat these two look almost identical. As for coverage, Man About Mango was good in three coats but I did 4 for a fair comparison. If I had to choose between the two, i'd probably pick Mad About Mango just  because of the scent, it smells amazing and kind of reminds me of mango frozen yogurt. However, I do love the color of both polishes equally.

wingdings & blue skies.

So, today, I have a bunch of things to do, all of which do not come with times attached. SO, just to avoid being caught with my nails bare or half done, I added to yesterdays nail design.

haul

International haul!
My mom was in Scotland for the last ten days or so and I sent her with a list of polishes I wanted from the UK. She got me these beauties from Boots, I had a lot of George polish on my list but she couldn't find any of them while there. Anyways, on to the haul and todays nails.
Now, although I tend to participate in Pink Wednesdays, I loved my nails from yesterday so much, I just had to keep them on an extra day! However, earlier this evening I tested out one of my new polishes.

I have no idea where exactly this polish came from but I like it!

forget the past and simply be mine

So, I was browsing my favorite Nail Blogs, since my swatching day plan failed me, and was inspired by Emily over at Emily's Nail Files. Check out her blog, it's fabulous!

Sally Hansen Complete Salon Makeover "Fairy Teal" 3 coats
Sally Hansen Insta Dri "Whirlwind White" 1 coat
Kiss Nail Art - Black 1 coat
I painted the Teal first, then scotch taped it and painted the white section, finishing off with the zebra stripes.
However, on my right hand I tried it slightly differently, I painted my entire nail white first then scotch taped it and painted the tela over top, I don't really prefer one way over the other though.

While you're on your way to Emily's blog.. Check out another one of my favorite blogs and her excellent giveaway!

inspiration-less

So, alas, I am in a nail polish slump. None of my polishes are appealing at the moment and I have nail art block (Similar to Writers block, but much much much more detrimental). It's a rainy day today and I planned on doing several swatches .. however, I'm not liking any of my polishes.
Anyways, here's one for you. I've had this polish for years and never used it so, here it is.

nobodys perfect, it aint easy

sometimes it lasts in love but sometimes it hurts instead

Base Coat - Sally Hansen XTreme Nails "White On" 2 coats
Top: KleanColor Crack Nail Polish "Green Crackle" 1 coat.
Clearcoat: Sally Hansen Hard As Nails with Nylon "Nude" 2 coats

I really like this crackle, it's much more subtle than OPI. However, it's application process is slightly different. You MUST put this on on top of slightly wet nail polish, and you MUST apply a top coat while it is still wet. It needs to mix with the other wet polishes to achieve the crackle effect. It's much better with two top coats because with just one the crackle falls apart and just peels off without even trying. Hence, the tip damage to the index and pinky nails because I originally put on one top coat only.

i've heard that your settled down, that you found a girl & you're married now
